Gear and Equipment Training

Preparing for the Nijmegen March requires more than physical fitness—it’s about ensuring your gear is ready to support you every step of the way. For U.S. military participants, training with the right equipment is essential to prevent injury, build endurance, and perform at your best. Below, you'll find detailed guidance on choosing and preparing your gear for this demanding event.

Footwear: Mission-Critical Preparation

Your boots will carry you through every mile of the Nijmegen March, so selecting the right pair and breaking them in is essential.

  • Choosing the Right Boots:
Opt for military-grade, event-approved boots that meet uniform standards while offering comfort, support, and durability. Features like waterproofing and breathability are critical for long-distance walking.

  • Breaking Them In:
Begin with short walks, gradually increasing distance and intensity while wearing your boots with the same socks you’ll use during the march. This prevents blisters and ensures a comfortable fit.

  • Socks and Foot Care:
Use moisture-wicking socks and consider layering with sock liners to reduce friction. Maintain foot hygiene, trim toenails regularly, and treat any hot spots immediately during training.
